The outcome of the Wimbledon Championships has added an extra gloss to the initial matches scheduled for the Swiss Indoors Basel, due to take place from 20 to 28 October 2012. They promise to be historical occasions. Here, at his home tournament, the record-breaking grand slam winner Roger Federer will once again come up against his great rival from the London event, the Scottish player Andy Murray. As previously announced, these two tennis titans will top the billing at the world’s third-largest indoor tournament.

A record-breaking return to the top of the rankings

Federer has won his seventh Wimbledon title on the grass courts of London, thus reclaiming his place at the top of the ATP rankings. This means that he could arrive in Basel as the top-ranked player and having held the Number One spot for more than his record-breaking 296 weeks. Everyone will be keen to see whether he will produce another record-shattering performance on the Green Set surface in the St. Jakobshalle Basel and play his way to a sixth title at his home tournament.

Super Monday and the British Day: a brand new highlight

31-year-old Mister Perfect Roger Federer will get his campaign underway as usual on Super Monday, on 22 October 2012 (6.30 pm). The inaugural British Day – which is guaranteed to be completely rain-free – will also see the pride of the British Empire take to the court: on Tuesday, 23 October 2012, Andy Murray will play his first match of the tournament, which will provide an important test of his skills and form ahead of the ATP Final in London. Tennis fans intending to come and watch the Swiss Indoors on the first two days of the tournament are advised to purchase tickets in advance.

Federer: things took a turn for the better at the Swiss Indoors 2011

Roger Federer gave hundreds of interviews in London. One thing that is worth mentioning, however, is what the Basel-born player said to the professional tennis association, the ATP: „I always believed in the positive. I played a lot of good tennis with the aim of winning titles, not bowing out at the quarter-final or semi-final stage”. According to Federer, last autumn’s Swiss Indoors marked a turning point for the better in his career: „In my home city, I reverted to winning ways. This boosted my self-confidence, and I went on to win titles in Paris-Bercy and London. At that point I knew that I could achieve a lot in 2012”.

Advance sales in full swing

As always, the St. Jakobshalle Basel can accommodate 9,000 spectators. For over a decade, this major event has attracted audiences reaching or exceeding the magical figure of 70,000. We recommend that you purchase tickets for Switzerland’s greatest sporting occasion in advance:
