Federer self-critical and looking ahead to London
Roger Federer finds himself in an usual position. As the world number 7, he is "only" seeded third in the star line-up at the Swiss Indoors. However, the technician's goals remain the same: to get as far as possible in Basel and pick up points in the race to the World Tour Finals in London. The star said that the Masters is his primary goal and that he will do everything he can to achieve it. The technician was also self-critical at the press conference prior to the highlight of the Swiss tennis calendar. He referred to his decision in Indian Wells (California) to continue playing the quarter final despite picking up an injury, saying that the quality of his training had suffered as a result. Federer also said it had been a mistake to play on sand in summer in Hamburg and Gstaad. "Hindsight is a wonderful thing." He also spoke of his split with US coach Paul Annacone, saying that they had departed amicably and on good terms. In the English-speaking part of the press conference Federer reiterated that he has the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio in his sights.
