Fabienne and Stan: a Swiss dream team
Before taking to the court for his first match on Tuesday, when he will take on Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin, Stan Wawrinka held a question and answer session with reporters. Before, during and after the interview, the man from from the Waadtland region had a charming lady at his side: this lady was Fabienne Benoit-Alaoui, who comes from Berne and is a member the ATP World Tour's communication team. She escorts the players to their media engagements and manages media requests. Benoit is the first Swiss female to have held this position in men's tennis. She studied Italian and history, and her line of work runs in the family. Her father, Pierre, was a long-standing chief sports editor at prestigious newspaper "Bund" and later in his career he was the press director of the Swiss Football Association. Benoit speaks five different languages and is so good at her job that Swiss stars Wawrinka and Roger Federer asked the Swiss Tennis Association to sign her up as team captain for the Davis Cup. The charming lady from Berne, whose job sees her jet almost all the way around the world once every year, says that the Swiss Indoors is one of her favourite tournaments.
