Successful start for Federer
Everything went smoothly for Roger Federer as he made a successful start to the tournament in his home city of Basel. The top technician controlled the game, disposing of Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in two straight sets. There was one occasion, during the second set, when the Swiss Indoors record holder lost his serve, but this was nothing but a blip. The seasoned Federer took to the court dressed in mint-green attire (fashion jury's verdict: not bad) and displayed numerous powerful swings with his right arm. However, it has to be said that the Frenchman was not a top-class opponent. Federer outlined his strategy for the tournament: to overcome one challenge after the other, with the overarching goal of reaching London (Masters). Following a successful start to the tournament, Federer's second-round challenge awaits him on Wednesday. There are still tickets available for day three of the main tournament.
