The (golden) stars from Bulgaria
If you are interested in football then you will be familiar with names such as Balakov (Stuttgart) and Stoichkov (Barcelona). Football with love from Bulgaria, which might now have a new golden star on the horizon to take on the mantle left behind by the Maleeva sisters, who made a name for themselves in women's tennis. Grigor Dimitrov (pictured) is a huge talent, a shot-maker. Last week in Stockholm he secured his first major title of the ATP Tour. This year constitutes his second appearance in Basel and this time he is the number eight seed. Tournament President Roger Brennwald, who is said to have a good nose for talent, thinks a lot of the Bulgarian, who up until several weeks ago had been training in Sweden in the academy run by Magnus Norman, coach of Stan Wawrinka. Now, the Bulgarian's father Dimitar is back looking after his son, who has recently been spending a lot of time in Florida with girlfriend Maria Sharapova. Dimitrov is the Russian Beauty's top seed.
