Formula One pays a visit to St. Jakob
The hall was yet again sold out for the Swiss Indoors on Thursday (9,200) and this despite the fact that Roger Federer wasn't on court. In the packed out St. Jakobshalle, President Roger Brennwald played host to Formula One team owner Peter Sauber (pictured, centre) and his wife in the President's VIP box. Exactly one week prior to the highlight of the Swiss tennis calendar, the motor sport pioneer from Hinwil, Switzerland, had celebrated his 70th birthday. Even though the smell of petrol and the roar of engines were absent from the hall, Sauber appeared to be mightily impressed by the high quality of the tennis on display at the Indoors and by the infrastructure created for the spectators. Brennwald, the tournament's boss, tends to drive slower than the Formula One racers and strictly adheres to the speed limits. Where car brands are concerned, the founder of the tournament has a penchant for the timeless elegance of Jaguars. He also once bought a Saab Turbo Loader.
