Historic TV partnership until 2018
In Basel, the leading partnership in international Swiss sport has been extended until 2018, long before expiry of the existing agreement. The agreement in question is the contract between the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR) and the Swiss Indoors.
This contract sets forth the exploitation rights of the SRG's TV and radio channels as well as its multimedia platforms. It also encompasses the TV signal which is produced by the SRG and made available to Switzerland's foremost tennis event for the transmission of 2,500 broadcasting hours to more than 75 different countries. The blockbuster deal was signed by Urs Leutert (pictured), head of business unit Sport, and Roger Brennwald in the Media Centre of the St. Jakobshalle. "The early renewal of the agreement acknowledges the substantial broadcasting appeal of the tournament in Basel," said sport director Leutert. He hinted that tennis would continue to form a core part of the SRG's programming even in the post-Federer era. Live tennis is a very big draw. Promoter Roger Brennwald considers continuity to be paramount in all of his dealings. The partnership with Swiss TV has now been running for 39 years. When it comes to TV marketing, the Swiss Indoors, with its combination of live coverage and highlights, is the leading Swiss sporting event on TV. Many broadcasting rights from Basel are sold to pay-TV channels all over the world via ATP Tour.
