The kings of skiing congratulate Federer
In the St. Jakobshalle almost 10,000 spectators witnessed Switzerland's tennis match of the year in the second semi-final. Roger Federer and Vasek Pospisil delivered an enthralling dogfight which delighted the celebrities in attendance. The picture above shows Swiss skiing stars Beat Feuz and Carlo Janka taking a photo of the scenes in the hall and congratulating Federer after his 10th victorious Swiss Indoors semi-final. It was a close affair and Federer only narrowly avoided suffering an upset. Pospisil, the Canadian of Czech origin, proved to be tough as old boots. He was happy to take the game to Federer and had exceptional speed in his swing. The Swiss Indoors lived up to its billing to provide world class tennis from young, hungry up-and-coming players too. Half of the FC Basel football team were also in the hall to witness the spectacle. Another star in attendance was singer and dual citizen of the USA and Cuba Gloria Estefan, known in Florida as the Miami Sound Machine. The Swiss Indoors will have attracted 71,300 spectators this year. This is 900 fewer than in 2012 but the attendance figure still makes it Europe's leading indoor tournament.
