Lorenzo Sonego recorded the first upset of the Turkish Airlines Open Antalya on Sunday by taking out eighth seed Joao Sousa of Portugal 6-3, 7-6(11).
The Italian erased three set points in the tie-break at 6/7, 8/9 and 10/11 before scoring his first ATP Tour main draw win on grass. Next up for Sonego is Indian Prajesh Gunneswaran or Serbian Janko Tipsarevic.
Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic didn’t drop serve in his 6-4, 6-3 victory over Spaniard Jaume Munar. He'll play sixth-seeded Frenchman Ugo Humbert or Argentine Federico Delbonis for a place in the quarter-finals.
The four qualifying spots were also filled on Sunday. Viktor Troicki, Steve Darcis, Kevin Krawietz and JC Aragone all earned main draw berths with final-round qualifying wins.
Defending champion and fifth seed Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia will be action in Monday, as will seventh-seeded Italian Andreas Seppi. Top seeds and Roland Garros doubles champions Krawietz and Andreas Mies will also start their week.
