It is one of the most spectacular breakthrough stories in world tennis: Rafael Jódar will make his first appearance at the Swiss Indoors Basel 2026 in the St. Jakobshalle. By securing the services of the just 19-year-old Spaniard, Swiss Indoors have signed the outstanding rising star of the season and further strengthened their top-class line-up for this year’s tournament, taking place from 24 October to 1 November 2026. 

With this breakthrough star, Swiss Indoors Basel have not only secured the breakthrough player of the 2026 season, but have also added to a field that, like few others, brings together the present and future of world tennis. Since the beginning of 2025, Jódar has made an extraordinary leap from ATP No. 895 to ATP No. 13 in the world rankings – a development unlike anything seen before! “Having top shot Jódar in the tournament is like hitting the jackpot. It would come as no surprise if this sensational rising star soon became one of the leading contenders for Grand Slam titles,” says Tournament President Roger Brennwald. 

More strong contenders for the title
Félix Auger-Aliassime (Canada, two-time Basel champion in 2022 and 2023), Ben Shelton (USA, winner in Dallas, Munich, Stuttgart and Montréal) and Taylor Fritz (USA, winner in Washington) are all ranked inside the Top 10. Alongside Rafael Jódar, Arthur Fils (France, winner in Barcelona and Cincinnati), Jiří Lehečka (Czech Republic) and João Fonseca (Brazil, last year’s champion) are all established world-class players who fit perfectly into the impressive line-up of Next Gen superstars. 

Stan Wawrinka’s career finale in Basel
As previously announced, Stan Wawrinka’s career finale in Basel will be honoured on Super Monday, 26 October 2026. He will play his first-round match the following day, on Tuesday, 27 October 2026.
