Swiss Indoors Basel kicks off with exciting qualifying matches and a top-notch main draw

Swiss Indoors Basel 2025 is off to a rousing start, thrilling spectators at St. Jakobshalle from the outset. Even in qualifying, top international players demonstrated the outstanding quality of the field beyond the main draw. With Marin Cilic (ATP 92), David Goffin (ATP 105) and Quentin Halys (ATP 77), three veterans won through to the decisive round of qualifying. Reilly Opelka (ATP 62) impressed with his powerful serve, while in-form players such as Valentin Royer (ATP 70) and Kamil Majchrzak (ATP 75) also prevailed, offering a taste of the intensity of the days to come. The main field in this year’s tournament promises an exciting week of tennis, with high-calibre match-ups coming in the first round. Taylor Fritz (ATP 4) will kick off his campaign against the surprise winner in Shanghai (ATP Masters 1000), Valentin Vacherot (ATP 40). Defending champion Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (ATP 37) will face the 19-year-old rising star Joao Fonseca (ATP 45). Local favourite Stan Wawrinka (ATP 137) will also start with a challenging opening match against Miomir Kecmanovic (ATP 49). Other match-ups include Denis Shapovalov (ATP 23) versus Marcos Giron (ATP 54) and two-time title holder (2022 and 2023) Felix Auger-Aliassime (ATP 13) facing Gabriel Diallo (ATP 35) – matches that are sure to get spectators’ pulses racing at St. Jakob. Ben Shelton (ATP 6), Casper Ruud (ATP 12) and Jiri Lehecka (ATP 17) will each face a qualifier in their first-round match. 

The opening ceremony on Super Monday marks the official start of this year’s Swiss Indoors. Basel can once again look forward to a week of world-class tennis – with the electrifying atmosphere on Center Court at St. Jakob that has made the tournament so special for decades.
