João Fonseca advances to semi-finals in sensational fashion

Brazilian rising star João Fonseca continues his fantastic run at Swiss Indoors Basel. Following his victory over Denis Shapovalov (ATP 23), the 19-year-old (ATP 46) will be in the semi-finals of an ATP 500 tournament for the first time in his career. 

Fonseca kept his Canadian opponent under pressure with bold shotmaking and consistently converted his break chances. He once again raised the roof the St. Jakobshalle with his energy and joyful play – further proof that the youngster is one of the most exciting Next Gen talents. 

In the semi-final, the Brazilian will face Jaume Munar (ATP 42), who also impressed with his solid baseline game and relentless style of play. 

The second semi-final will be contested by Ugo Humbert (ATP 24) and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (ATP 18). Both have delivered consistently strong performances throughout the week – a match-up that promises speed, precision and thrilling shots.
