Final of Swiss Indoors Basel 2025 – Fonseca versus Davidovich Fokina

The final Swiss Indoors Basel 2025 match-up has been decided: 19-year-old João Fonseca will face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Sunday. Two players who have made their way to the final with a combination of passionate tennis, athleticism and bold play – setting the stage for a thrilling clash of generations. 

João Fonseca (ATP 46) continued his success story in Basel. The young Brazilian won his semi-final against Spain’s Jaume Munar 7-6, 7-5 and will now contest an ATP 500-level final for the first time in his career. After winning in Buenos Aires earlier this year, the rising Next Gen star is now the youngest finalist in Basel in more than 20 years – and the first Brazilian to reach an ATP 500 final since the tournament series was launched in 2009. Fonseca has taken St. Jakobshalle by storm with his precise serve, steady nerves in key moments and his exhilarating style of play. 

His opponent, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (ATP 18), benefited from Ugo Humbert’s injury-related withdrawal in the semi-final. The Spaniard had played a strong match up to that point, winning the first set in a tiebreak and applying constant pressure from the baseline throughout. For the 26-year-old, it will be the fifth ATP final of his career – and the first on an indoor hard court. Known for his athletic and creative style of play, Davidovich Fokina is aiming to win his first ATP title in Basel. 

The two players have faced each other twice this season, most recently at the Masters in Cincinnati, where Fonseca won in two sets. The title is theirs for the taking: the aspiring youngster versus the more experienced fighter, both dead set on making history.
