João Fonseca krönt seine Sensationswoche in Basel

João Fonseca (ATP 46) has won Swiss Indoors Basel 2025. The 19-year-old Brazilian defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (ATP 18) 6-3, 6-4 in the final and made tennis history in the process. 

With his triumph at St. Jakobshalle, Fonseca celebrated the greatest achievement of his young career and became the first Brazilian to win an ATP 500 tournament since the series was launched in 2009. Throughout the entire week, the young South American thrilled spectators with his energy, powerful style of play and steady nerves under pressure – and has now capped his dream week with the Basel title. 

Having prevailed against several higher-ranked opponents en route to the final, Fonseca displayed powerful groundstrokes and impressive maturity in the championship match. After just one hour and 25 minutes, Fonseca received the winner’s trophy before the cheering crowd as the youngest Basel champion since 1989. 

With his win in Basel, Fonseca cemented his reputation as one of the most exciting tennis talents of the new generation and provided an exhilarating conclusion to an exciting tournament week.
