Holger Rune's comeback

Welcome back Holger Rune
Joining the field at the Swiss Indoors Basel from 24 October to 1 November 2026 is the super-talented former world No. 4 Holger Rune of Denmark. The 23-year-old all-rounder was sidelined for eleven months as a result of an Achilles tendon injury sustained in Stockholm. Holger Rune currently has a Protected Ranking (PR) of ATP 14. He can use this PR to gain entry into the main draw even though his regular world ranking is significantly lower because of his long absence (ATP 144). Since his absence lasted less than twelve months, he can use his Protected Ranking for up to nine tournaments. Important: The Protected Ranking applies only to entry into the tournament, not to seeding. His current ATP ranking counts for the seedings. 

Casper Ruud also returns
Another world-class player, three-time Grand Slam finalist Casper Ruud (ATP 17), adds further strength to the already high-calibre field. The 28-year-old missed the US Open because of a back injury, having climbed to No. 2 in the ATP world rankings four years ago. This year, the man from Oslo, with his solid two-handed backhand, should once again be one to watch and feature among the seeds. 

World class all the way
The top players confirmed as of today are: Ben Shelton (USA, ATP 4), Félix Auger-Aliassime (Canada, ATP 5), Taylor Fritz (USA, ATP 10), Arthur Fils (France, ATP 11), Rafael Jódar (Spain, ATP 14), Holger Rune (Denmark PR ATP 14), Casper Ruud (Norway, ATP 17), Jiří Lehečka (Czech Republic, ATP 23), João Fonseca (Brazil, ATP 28). Stan Wawrinka (Switzerland, ATP 141) will end his career in Basel. The tribute to the three-time Grand Slam champion will take place on Super Monday (26 October), with his first-round match on Tuesday (27 October). Wawrinka is the first recipient of a wild card.

The entry list will be completed as of 30 September 2026. In the following days, Swiss Indoors will publish the names of the direct entrants.
