ATP Tour 500 – EUR 2.584 million – 24 October to 1 November 2026
The Swiss duel in the final qualification round of Swiss Indoors Basel 2026 had two winners. Remy Bertola (ATP 219) beat Mika Brunold (ATP 195) 7–6 (7–5), 6–4 on Center Court on Sunday – but Brunold will join the main draw anyway as a lucky loser after several withdrawals. Starting Monday, five Swiss players will be in the singles field.
Bertola advances through qualifying for the second straight year
The 28-year-old from Ticino won the first set in a tiebreak and broke once in the second for a straight-sets win. As in 2025, he made the leap from qualifying to the main draw in Basel. His first-round opponent will be the Canadian Denis Shapovalov (ATP 47).
Brunold gets his chance
Alexander Bublik (knee), Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (illness) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (right shoulder) were forced to withdraw with ailments. The vacancies went to the lucky losers, including Brunold. The 22-year-old knocked out the third-seeded Jaime Faria on Saturday. On Monday, he will face Portugal’s Nuno Borges (ATP 52). Daniel Altmaier also secured a spot and will again meet Juan Manuel Cerundolo, his opponent from the last qualifying round, for the second match in a row.
Djokovic
starts on Wednesday
Novak Djokovic, who enters on a wild card and is seeded fourth, will play his first-round match on Wednesday. His opponent will be the Frenchman Ugo Humbert.
Outlook
The main draw starts on Monday. Brunold is set to play no earlier than 1:30 pm on IWB Court 1. The Super Monday opening ceremony will follow on Center Court at 6:00 pm, after which Dominic Stricker will meet the ninth-seeded Norwegian Casper Ruud no earlier than 8:00 pm. Jérôme Kym (vs Arthur Rinderknech) and Stan Wawrinka (vs Jiri Lehecka) will start their campaigns later in the week.
