ATP Tour 500 – Euro 2,584 Mio. – 24. Oktober bis 1. November 2026
Super Monday at the 2026 Swiss Indoors Basel was dedicated to Stan Wawrinka. For over an hour on Center Court, the tournament honoured the three-time Grand Slam winner, who will end his career in Basel. Before the ceremony, the main draw had kicked off with the opening first-round matches. Over the next few days, the big names will follow in close succession.
An evening for Stan
With his family in attendance, Wawrinka witnessed a tribute to his career marked by extended applause and standing ovations. A painter created a live portrait, and Bastian Baker sang ‘Lucky’. It will be the 19th and last Swiss Indoors for the 41-year-old from Lausanne. He twice reached the semifinals in Basel, in 2006 and 2011. On Tuesday, he will start his last campaign at St. Jakobshalle.
Strong start in the main draw
Holger Rune won his first ATP-level match since his comeback against Quentin Halys. The match lasted so long that the opening ceremony was delayed. Dominic Stricker won the first set against ninth seed Casper Ruud in the evening session and didn’t face a break point until the score stood at 5–6 in the second set. After just under two hours, Ruud prevailed with a final score of 4–6, 7–5, 6–3. Mika Brunold played his first main-draw match on the ATP Tour against Nuno Borges, losing 3–6, 1–6.
Serving up an array of tennis
Three more Swiss players will join the action on Tuesday. Jérôme Kym will meet Arthur Rinderknech in the afternoon on IWB Court 1. On Center Court, the top-seeded Ben Shelton will open the evening session no earlier than 6 pm against Aleksandar Kovacevic, after which Stan Wawrinka will meet eighth seed Jiri Lehecka. Remy Bertola will face Denis Shapovalov in the first round. The next highlight follows on Wednesday: Novak Djokovic returns to the tournament 15 years after his last appearance in Basel to meet Ugo Humbert.
