Roger Brennwald puts Swiss players first
As in previous years, Switzerland’s top players and promising young talents will once again be given priority in the allocation of wild cards for the Swiss Indoors, which begin this coming Saturday. Tournament President Roger Brennwald explains: “Supporting and developing young talent in our country has always been important to us and goes hand in hand with promoting the Swiss Indoors. Wild cards give our rising stars the chance to showcase their abilities on a major stage, achieve success and earn valuable ATP ranking points. Competing directly against world-class players will be a defining experience in the career of any ambitious player,” Brennwald believes.
The three Swiss players in the main draw:
Stan Wawrinka, Jérôme Kym, Dominic Stricker
The three Swiss players in qualifying:
Henry Bernet, Remy Bertola, Mika Brunold
Two standout runs in Shanghai – two withdrawals from Basel
Good and bad news for Swiss Indoors Basel: Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Rafael Jódar, both set to compete in Basel, made headlines at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai. After their respective semi-final victories over Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev, they met in a thrilling final, which Davidovich Fokina won. Less welcome are the injury-related withdrawals of Félix Auger-Aliassime and defending champion João Fonseca. While the Canadian is sidelined by a knee injury, the Brazilian has ended his season early.
