Quarterfinal matches portend great things

After four eventful tournament days with many unforgettable tennis moments, a few surprising turns and an exceptional atmosphere on Center Court, the final thrilling phase of the pursuit of the Swiss Indoors title now begins.

Judging by the matches so far, it’s clear that each of the remaining eight contenders has the potential and the ability to come out on top at this year’s tournament. That said, two of the NextGen stars have drawn particular attention with their outstanding performances.

The 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 1) was touted as one of the top favourites in the run-up to the tournament. Now the rising Spanish star has emphatically underscored the point with a commanding straight-sets win over Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (ATP 35) in the round of sixteen.

The 22-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime (ATP 9) is also in the best form of his young career and has continued his impressive winning streak at the Swiss Indoors Basel. With no fewer than 10 match wins on the trot and an outstanding 6-1, 6-0 win in his round-of-sixteen match against Miomir Kecmanovic (ATP 28), the Canadian surged into the quarters.

If the two top-10 players each win their quarterfinal matches, they would square off in the semis on Saturday for a battle of the giants.
