Spanish power-duo rings in a new era

23. Okt 2022

This year’s Swiss Indoors is ushering in a new era. Yet it’s also preserving proud traditions, so the tournament week will once again kick off with a mix of music and tennis on Super Monday.

Spectators can also look forward to not one but two compelling performers from the Iberian peninsula this year.

At 5:30 pm, the Spanish-German pop singer and songwriter Alvaro Soler will open the Super Monday proceedings, serving up his world-famous hits for a smashing start to an action-packed evening.

He’ll be followed by Carlos Alcaraz, the world number one and NextGen superstar from Spain, who is sure to thrill the St. Jakobshalle crowd with the galactic power and precision of his shotmaking. But his opponent, the Brit Jack Draper (ATP 48), should by no means be underestimated. Still outside the ATP top 200 in January, the 20-year-old has roared into the top 50 with a phenomenal year.

After the clash of the young high fliers, another big name will return to Center Court. Marin Cilic, a grand-slam (US Open) winner in 2014, has had a special thing for Basel since 2016 when he beat Japan’s Kei Nishikori in a thrilling final to take the Swiss Indoors Basel title.
