The opening ceremony was all about the city of Basel, which has been in the spotlight this year in both sporting and musical terms. The two singers ZIAN and JJ provided some goosebump moments: ZIAN moved the audience with his powerful live performance, while JJ and his ESC winning song ‘Wasted Love’ evoked memories of an unforgettable year in which Basel has hosted a series of major events – now rounded off by Swiss Indoors as the glittering finale to this extraordinary season.
Already on day one, fans were treated to some top-class tennis on Center Court. Exciting duels marked the start of the main draw, culminating in a thrilling Next Gen duel in the evening match between 20-year-old Czech Jakub Mensik (ATP 19) and Basel’s own up-and-coming talent Henry Bernet (ATP 481).
After two hours and 40 minutes, Mensik emerged victorious with a 7–6, 6–7, 6–3 scoreline. The Czech impressed with 18 aces and remarkable consistency on serve, while Bernet won over the crowd with his fighting spirit and pinpoint precision. The young Swiss pushed his higher-ranked opponent to the limit and underscored why Swiss Indoors is seen as a stage for the stars of tomorrow.
