BASEL PARTICIPANTS ON A HOT STREAK

Next Gen stars steal the show

Top-flight tennis by the next generation ushered in a new era at this year’s Swiss Indoors Basel. The thrilling match play garnered attention around the world. After his visit to Basel, ATP Vice President Geoffroy Bourbon called the tournament a resounding success and one of the great highlights of the ATP Tour.

Félix Auger-Aliassime follows Basel title with Davis Cup win

After winning the Swiss Indoors title, the 21-year-old Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime led his country to Davis Cup glory after a comfortable win over Australia in the final. ‘Tennis Canada’ marked the win with the headline: ‘No player has been better indoors in 2022 than Auger-Aliassime.’

Holger Rune wins Paris Masters 1000

The buzz around the 19-year-old Dane was already picking up steam after his win in Stockholm and appearance in the final in Basel. Now, after taking the title in Paris-Bercy with a win over Djokovic in the final and cracking the top ten, the young star is the talk of the tennis world.

Casper Ruud’s third big final

After falling to Stan Wawrinka in the first round of Swiss Indoors, the 23-year-old French Open and US Open finalist Casper Ruud (Norway) played his way into another prestigious final to cap the year. At the year-end tournament for the top eight players, the ATP Finals in Turin, he was only bested in the final by Novak Djokovic.

Brandon Nakashima wins Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan

Another young star, the 21-year-old American Brandon Nakashima, who fell to Stan Wawrinka at Swiss Indoors in a hard-fought second-round match, topped all competitors two weeks later at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan. In the semifinals, he beat Jack Draper (UK), who had recently made a good showing in his compelling first-round match at Swiss Indoors against world number one Carlos Alcaraz (Spain).

Strong performance by Dominic Stricker

The 20-year-old Bern native put on a strong showing at Swiss Indoors with a win over Maxime Cressy and a tight loss to Pablo Carreno Busta. At the Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan, Stricker gave Swiss tennis fans even more to cheer about. In the group stage, Stricker, who was the Roland Garros junior champion in 2020, beat Lorenzo Musetti (Italy), Jack Draper and Chun-hsin Tseng (Taiwan) before falling to group winner Jiri Lehecka (Czechia) in the semifinal.
