Explosive field at Swiss Indoors Basel

ATP tour 500 – EUR 2.523 million – 18 to 26 October 2025

Concentrated quality
The competition will be fierce at Swiss Indoors Basel from 18 to 26 October. This highlight of the Swiss tennis calendar will once again serve up top-notch quality at St. Jakobshalle. The select field includes eight players from the world’s top 20 and a multitude of illustrious names and title-winners. All 23 direct qualifiers for the main draw are among the top 48 in the ATP world rankings.

Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton lead the pack
American tennis legend Andre Agassi calls his countryman Taylor Fritz the best shotmaker on the tour at the moment. The meteoric rise of the American in the last two years is impressive indeed. His achievements include reaching the finals of the 2024 US Open and the semi-finals at Wimbledon this year. His booming serve, powerful forehand and consistency make the fifth-ranked Fritz one of the most dangerous players on the tour right now. Ben Shelton made his debut in Basel three years ago at the age of 21. In January, he made it to the semi-finals of the Australian Open, confirming his versatility on different surfaces. Shelton won his first Masters 1000 title in Toronto. The spirited left-handed player returns to the Swiss Indoors as world number six. Together, Fritz and Shelton embody the hopes of a new American Grand Slam era.

Holger Rune, Jakub Mensik, Jiri Lehecka, Arthur Fils and Joao Fonseca are right on their heels
Basel is set to be a Next Gen spectacle again this autumn. With a few exceptions, the elite ranks of young rising stars will all be on hand in Basel. They are already making waves as contenders in big-name tournaments, including Shelton (winner in Toronto), Rune (winner in Barcelona), Mensik (winner in Miami), Lehecka (winner in Brisbane), Fils (winner in Tokyo in ’24) and Fonseca (winner in Buenos Aires). As a group, they have an average age of just over 20 years old!

Casper Ruud and Denis Shapovalov stir up the field
One exciting story to watch will be the performance of two other world-class players who come into the tournament with mixed records on the year. Casper Ruud’s career track record, however, is impressive: ATP world number two in 2022 and a three-time Grand Slam finalist, twice at the French Open (2022, 2023) and once at the US Open (2022). Thanks to his explosive playing style and his temperament, Denis Shapovalov is one of the crowd favourites on the tour. His biggest success this year was his tournament victory in Los Cabos.

Title-winners back in town: Félix Auger-Aliassime and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard
Félix Auger-Aliassime and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard are back for another crack at the title after winning the last three editions of the tournament. The Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime (winner of the Swiss Indoors in 2022 and 2023), who is in great form this autumn and a threat to the world’s best, has an exceptionally well-rounded game, as he showed in his win over Alcaraz at the Laver Cup. Not to be overlooked is last year’s winner Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, whose trademark is his deceptive serve.

Wildcards for Stan Wawrinka and Henry Bernet
Of the six wildcards available (three for the main draw, three for qualifying), two of the main-draw spots have been awarded to Swiss players. One to crowd-favourite and three-time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka, the other to the talented 18-year-old from Basel who won the Junior Australian Open, Henry Bernet. The remaining wildcards, as well as the top-notch qualifying field, will be announced later.

ESC winner JJ and Zian to open Swiss Indoors
Since 2008, the world stage for tennis at St. Jakob on Super Monday has traditionally been celebrated with a music and tennis festival. The opening spectacle of this year’s Swiss Indoors, which will kick off at 6 pm, revolves around the theme ‘Hommage to Basel’, including figures and recordings from major events in Basel (Eurovision Song Contest and UEFA Women’s EURO) as well as musical performances by JJ and Zian.
